How to Pick a Niche

Are you just so effing tired of being told you need to pick a niche??!

Does it feel like chopping off 3 of your limbs to hobble around on 1!!?
Like choosing 1 of your favorite stuffed animals as a child when you have 8!?

I was in resistance to picking a niche for years.

It was agonizing.

I positioned myself as a “multifaceted creative”. Why? Because I write poetry, sing, make videos, take portraits, paint, teach yoga, and do digital design.

But when my 'niche' finally clicked my business exploded!

Your niche is the most common problem that people reach out to you about hoping that you can solve it.

For me, this was designing websites.

Yet after an intro call with me, you’d know that I also use my tools as a business and energetics coach, strategist, identity designer, copywriter, poet, healer, and marketer to make your website exceptional.

BUT if I introduced myself to you at a party as “a business and energetics coach, strategist, identity designer, copywriter, poet, healer, and marketer” you’d feel overwhelmed!

People won't believe you if you say you're really good at 12 things.

Your niche is the problem you solve best, for the people you enjoy the most, presented in the simplest way possible.

In the fall of 2021, I narrowed my niche to only working with health practitioners and wellness brands. Yet clients from the finance, marketing, fashion, and the new-age community have reached out to me just as much as my target audience.

And though I don’t show my work for these clients in my public-facing portfolio I’m still able to honor, explore and use all of my tools for many different types of people, despite the fact that my front facing messaging “locks me into the 'wellness branding' box”.

When you pick a niche and stick to it, you position yourself as an expert and authority. And when people see you as trustworthy you (ironically) become more approachable to not just those within your niche, but many.
